What is Herbal Medicine

Herbal or Botanic Medicine is the scientific use of whole plant extracts for their health and medicinal qualities.
Traditional Herbal Medicine is the oldest form of health and healing, dating back thousands of years. Long before the advent of modern medicine in the mid twentieth century, every traditional and indigenous culture used native plants for their medicinal qualities.

Obviously modern medical science, surgery and drugs have helped to eradicate many diseases and increase life expectancy. However, many modern drugs are derived from traditional plant sources and there is still a role today for Traditional Herbal Medicine.

As organisms and diseases become resistant to modern drug therapy there is a greater emphasis now being placed on keeping the body and immune system healthy and utilizing traditional forms of medicine in health management.

Why choose to see a Medical Herbalists

Your Herbal Medicine practitioner has a university degree in Herbal Medicine and has studied biochemistry, physiology, pathology, clinical science, diagnostics and prescribing.

Think of your Herbalist as a General Practitioner who uses Herbal Medicine.
Unlike purchasing a herbal remedy in a shop, your Herbal Medicine practitioner will prepare a herbal formula specific for your condition taking into account your state of health and the other factors that may have contributed such as poor diet, stress, anxiety or burn out.

Modern Herbalists blend formulas using a range of over 150 liquid herbal extracts of Western, Chinese and Indian/Ayurvadic plants. These herbal extracts are made from the whole plant in laboratory conditions so as to give he maximum therapeutic effect.

The main reason for seeing a Herbalist is so that you can have your condition diagnosed and prescribed for effectively. You will have you progress back to good health monitored by a trained health professional and you herbal prescription adjusted accordingly. You won't waste money on over- the- counter commercially prepared products that often don't work.

We use only clinically approved herbal extracts from MediHerb, The Herbal Extract Company and Nutrition Care
