At-home Acupressure for Fatigue

Stomach 36 (Zu San Li), is one of the most important acupuncture points in the body. Stomach 36 is a major point on the stomach channel that can promote and strengthen the digestion, improve energy and build immunity.

Zu San Li translates to Leg Three Miles, with an interpretation that the stimulation of this point would allow a person to walk a further three miles, even if exhausted.

This point is regularly used by acupuncturists for digestive conditions such as bloating, low appetite, nausea, reflux, vomiting and loose bowel movements. Through rectifying the digestion, the process of building and nourishing the bodies Qi and Blood can be restored, which can bring about increased energy, relief from fatigue and improved immunity. Other actions of this point include strengthening the Lungs to aid conditions such as asthma and wheezing, as well as calming the mind.

How to use Stomach 36 as an at-home acupressure point:

  • To locate the point, bend your knee slightly and measure 4 fingers width from the bottom of the kneecap, along the outer edge of the shin bone

  • Press to find a tender depression at this location

  • Once located, apply firm (but not painful) pressure on the point using your finger or knuckle

  • Maintain pressure for 2-3 minutes

  • While applying pressure, focus on deepening the breath to encourage a sense of calm
